Unyielding contractors caused the death of about 38 people

The Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, Mr. Richard Nyong, owners of the recently collapsed building in Lekki, Lagos state, has been charged to court by the Lagos State government, Punch reports.
Nyong, alongside a contractor were brought before the Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court on Friday, March 11, in handcuffs over negligence in the collapsed building that claimed the lives of 35 people.
On Tuesday, March 8, 2016, the uncompleted five-storey building located at Chisco bus stop, opposite Oando Gas station along the Lekki-Epe Expressway,
crumbled around 3am » after a heavy rain.
The building collapsed on many construction workers and artisans who were sleeping inside it at the time of the accident.

It was gathered that the state government had approved for the building to be a two-storey, but the contractors ignored the approved plan and went ahead with a five-storey construction.
