Cristiano Ronaldo opted for a mysterious response when asked about the controversial penalty scored by Lionel Messi this weekend.
Luis Suarez completed his hat-trick in the 6-1 rout of Celta Vigo on Sunday night after Messi had tapped the ball into his path from a spot-kick, prompting some to accuse the Barca superstars of a lack of respect.
However, when quizzed for his view of the Messi penalty, archrival Ronaldo claimed he got exactly why the Argentine had done it – he just wouldn’t say why.
“I know why Leo has done it,” Ronaldo revealed speaking ahead of the Champions League clash with Roma.
“But I’m not telling you. Think what you want.”
Barcelona did what Arsenal failed to back in 2005 when Robert Pires failed to roll the ball to Thierry Henry in a match against Manchester City at Highbury.
They were trying to replicate the penalty of Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, who exchanged passes with team-mate Jesper Olsen before scoring for Ajax back in the 1982/83 campaign.
Barcelona’s penalty was the highlight of a sumptuous second-half display, which saw Barca running away 6-1 victors.
